We are now enabling the latest PHP 8.5 version as the default for all new hosting subscriptions. This change will not automatically affect our existing customers for the time being, and current PHP versions will remain unchanged over the coming months.
Active support for older PHP versions (8.0–8.3) has ended, and these versions will be removed from use by October this year for security reasons. The remaining supported PHP versions will be 8.5 and 8.4, as well as 7.4 for compatibility purposes. PHP 7.4 will still be available temporarily to ensure that older WordPress installations can be migrated to our servers and updated to newer versions.
However, we strongly recommend reacting well in advance and already beginning to verify the compatibility of your WordPress website or WooCommerce online store with modern PHP versions. In most cases there will be no issues if all plugins and themes are updated to their latest versions, WordPress itself is fully updated, and there are no outdated plugins whose development ended years ago.

After changing the PHP version, the functionality of the website or online store should be thoroughly tested. If compatibility issues occur, you can revert back to the previous PHP version from the same menu and resolve the issues by updating or replacing incompatible plugins.

We recommend that all customers ensure during the coming months that their websites are compatible with either the latest PHP 8.5 or the second latest PHP 8.4 version. (As an emergency fallback solution, PHP 7.4 will still be available temporarily starting this autumn.)
